Status
Honorary Director of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS)
Ex-Director of the Laboratory Biology of Marine Organisms and Ecosystems (ca. 60 scientists, technicians and students). The activity of the laboratory was dedicated to biomineralization processes, Ecophysiology and Evolution of endocrine regulations, Symbiosis, Ecogenetics, dispersion and settlement, benthic food web.
Previously executive officer at the head quarter of the CNRS (National Institute for the Sciences of the Universe and Earth Sciences) and Secretary of the French National Program on coastal environment (PNEC).
Research topics:
- Study of free living nematodes in different coastal and deep-sea sediments (taxonomy, biogeography and biodiversity patterns, structure of species assemblages, bioindicators). Scales of local and regional diversity and their turn over.
- General marine ecology: meiofauna in the benthic food web, impact of benthos on fluxes at the water-sediment interface, benthic production of tropical and temperate coastal sediments. Laboratory experiments (mesocosms) and field experiments to study ecosystem functioning, pollution and eutrification (impact of hydrocarbons and organic matter).
- Development of enclosure methods to estimate respiration, excess production and nitrogen exchanges of sediment and benthic organisms in the subtidal and intertidal zone.
Achievements: 95publications, director of 4 PhD and many diplomas of University students
Geographic interest: French coasts, Tropical lagoons and mangroves.
Main Collaborations: Institute of Research and development (IRD) New Caledonia and French Guyana, IFREMER (French Institute for Research and Exploitation of the Sea), French marine Stations and Universities, Natural History Museum London, University of Gdansk (Poland), University of Qingdao (China)
