JobDescription:
The COSEE China Coordination Office (Xiamen) seeks a part time project assistant (20 hours per week).COSEEChinais a relatively new initiative between 7 universities inChinathat is modeled after the Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE) network in theUnited States.Our goals are to:
1) Promote ocean literacy and awareness at the K-12, public, and university levels,
2) Foster relationships between ocean scientists and educators, both internationally anddomestically, and
3) Bring marine science to the forefront of national development strategies and promote its protection.
The project assistant would be responsible for translating project related materials from Chinese to English and vice versa, conducting background research on topics relevant to our outreach projects, and writing media releases for our events (both pre- and post-).S/he would also work closely with relevant Xia Da departments to promote our events as well as with the other 6 universities in the COSEEChinanetwork and local K-12 schools.
Key Responsibilities:
·Translate relevant materials from Chinese to English and English to Chinese.
·Research materials necessary for project programs
·Draft media releases related to our outreach programs (both pre- and post- event)
·Work with the development coordinator and other staff to advertise our projects and develop multi-media materials
·Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Applicant should have excellent writing skills in both English and Chinese.A background in biology or ocean sciences not necessary but is helpful.Must be willing to work independently as well as with a small group and work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
